We are seeking an inspiring and organised Head Librarian to lead our Senior School Learning Resource Centre and promote a love of reading, research, and independent learning across the school community.
As Head Librarian, you will lead and develop the Senior School Learning Resource Centre, creating a dynamic, welcoming space that inspires a love of reading, research, and independent learning across the school community. You will play a central role in supporting teaching and learning by equipping students with essential research, critical thinking, and referencing skills, while promoting ethical use of information. Working closely with academic departments and Learning Support, you will ensure the library is an integral part of the school’s educational provision and a vibrant hub of intellectual curiosity.
This is a key leadership role within the Senior School, requiring a proactive professional who can balance strategic development with the day-to-day management of resources, systems, and staff.

You will bring strong expertise in managing learning resources, promoting research skills, and fostering a culture of reading for pleasure. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively with teachers, students, and support teams.
You will be confident in leading a library service, embracing digital and physical resources, and creating engaging initiatives that enhance learning. A calm, professional approach, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to educational excellence will be key to success in this role.

Exceptional organisational and resource management skills, with the ability to balance strategic development with the day-to-day running of a busy learning resource centre.
Strong knowledge of research, referencing, and information literacy, with the ability to teach and support students in becoming ethical and independent users of information.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work collaboratively with teaching staff, Learning Support teams, students, and senior leaders.
Confidence in managing library systems, digital resources, and information technology to support modern teaching and learning.
Proven ability to lead, support, and develop staff, fostering a positive and efficient working environment.
Creativity and initiative in promoting reading for pleasure and designing engaging literacy events and activities.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records, cataloguing systems, and resource inventories.
A calm, professional approach with the flexibility to thrive in a dynamic school environment.
A commitment to the values and ethos of St Christopher’s School and a desire to contribute positively to the wider school community.
Start Date: September 2026
Location: New Senior School Campus
Working Hours: 7:30 - 15:00 Sunday - Thursday. Some flexibility may be required, for example before or after school hours, or during busy periods.
This role is term time only and will include staff induction week and training days throughout the year.
Contract Type: Local hire, non term-time only position. No additional benefits
