We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Head of Musical Theatre and Drama to join our SPARTA Team. To lead and develop an outstanding performance programme across the Whole School, nurturing creativity, confidence, and excellence in drama and musical theatre throughout the school community.
The role will establish clear progression pathways within the SPARTA Academy, supporting students from introductory participation through to advanced and elite performance levels. The post holder will inspire a culture of passionate learning, creativity, and excellence across the School, acting as a role model for students and colleagues and fostering a lifelong love of Drama and Musical Theatre.
The role also includes responsibility for teaching Drama within the Senior School and supporting Drama provision within the Infant and Junior School.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, highly organised, and inspirational performing arts professional with a genuine passion for Drama and Musical Theatre education. You will have a proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality programmes that develop students’ technical, creative, and performance skills, while fostering confidence, self-expression, and a lifelong love of the performing arts.
You will be an effective and empathetic leader, capable of mentoring and motivating students and staff alike. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.
You will be confident in integrating syllabus frameworks such as LAMDA into teaching programmes, leading productions and workshops, and creating opportunities for performance at all levels. Creativity, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement will allow you to inspire students and staff, while ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and professional conduct.
To Succeed in this Role, You Will Have
A genuine passion for Drama and Musical Theatre, with a strong commitment to inspiring and developing students of all ages.
Exceptional organisational and programme management skills, with the ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on delivery of lessons, rehearsals, and productions.
Expertise in performance training, directing, musical theatre, and creative education, with the ability to nurture talent and develop pathways from beginner to elite performer.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with teaching staff, Learning Support teams, students, parents, and senior leaders.
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support staff and coaches within the department, fostering a positive, motivated, and professional culture.
Creativity and initiative in designing engaging workshops, showcases, and enrichment activities that enhance student learning and participation.
Strong attention to detail in planning rehearsals, productions, resources, and performance logistics.
A calm, professional, and flexible approach, thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced school environment.
A commitment to the values, ethos, and SPARTA vision of St Christopher’s School, with a desire to contribute positively to the wider school community.
Start Date: September 2026
Location: Whole School
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, which may include afternoon, evening and weekend work. This includes a provision for working up to 25 days per year ar camps specific to your discipline, or assisting with other SPARTA run camps and events.
Contract Type: Local hire, term-time only position. No additional benefits
